Classic Universal Monster Paintings!
The paint is flying at the Groman Studio!
Doing 3 Classic Universal Monsters by way of Madballs this week for an upcoming Gallery Show. Other projects kept me pretty busy getting ready for NYCC so did not get to these until the last week or so before the due date, so gotta move quick!
Actually, that's okay though. These Madball-esque paintings benefit from the crazy, free-form energy. It kinda fits the subject matter.
Anyway, one more to go by Wednesday...

Rotten Rex Comic Book
Howdy!
Anyone reading this blog knows about the Rotten Rex sculpture that I did a few months back, and that it will hopefully become a vinyl toy in the next couple months...
I decided to do a 'pack-in' mini-comic of sorts to sell in conjunction with RR initial release..(we are hoping for New York City Comicon). I have all the pages inked and are about to start coloring (may even do a cool black and white style wash on them, Like an old B-Monster movie)as well as beginning on the cover painting.
I am also hoping to release a mock movie poster to sell with the toy as well.
Anyway, thought that I would give everyone a preview of a couple of the comic pages, uncolored and without word balloons.

Bela Lugosi's: Tales From The Grave issue 2
Issue number 2 of BELA LUGOSI'S TALES FROM THE GRAVE is finally here! Look for this striking cover by 7 time Academy Award winner: Rick Baker! Lots of cool stuff in this issue, and I was particularly struck by Mike Dubisch's Order In: Take out Chaos.
My story is 8 pages and titled: Claws of the Werewolf. It is written by Sam Park.
Start bugging your local comic book retailer now, issue #1 sold out!

The Ball of Cthulhu!!
Howdy!
New Madball painting! New Madball painting!
Just finished this for the Monster Art show at the F.O.E. Gallery, coming up this weekend.
I call it 'The Ball of Cthulhu'. Did this quick, in about 5 hours in between other projects. 16'' by 16''acrylic on canvas board. This is my first Madball painting in about 2 years. Forgot how fun they are to do.
Anyway, enjoy the terror of:

Sculptris Thetan from Outer Limits!
Been playing around with the computer sculpting program called Sculptris, (Actually the alpha version of ZBrush) and this is the first non-day-job character that I was able to find some time to work on. (as in, it is the only character that I have worked on so far that is not highly confidential, and that I can actually post).
It is the Thetan alien from the old 1960's Outer Limits episode entitled:'Architects of Fear'. My favorite episode from one of my favorite old tv shows, as well as the inspiration for Alan Moore's amazing Watchmen graphic novel and motion picture.
Anyway, will be taking this into Photoshop to add some color, and will be posting the result as soon as I can...

Son of Plushtooken
Got a new computer and wanted to try a Photoshop rendering to start getting it limbered up. No sketch this time, just straight into Photoshop and finished in about 3.5 hours.
I have been talking to some friends about trying to produce a small line of creepy, monster plush characters with some sculpted parts. I did some quick pencil drawings of about 15 characters and we all seemed to like this little guy. He is based on the custom plush character I did a couple years ago for a gallery show. the original piece sold real quick and alot of people comment on how much they like the lil' critter.
I'll post some shots of the finished plush when he is finally brought to life.
